Called the embassies this morning

Woke up, took Dan’s car to the shop, and decided to take the day off to take care of a long list of things. This is the last week I’ll have that luxury as we’ll either have won or not won a very large project which I’ll be running, or will be figuring out what my next assignment is.

Decided against ignoring the financial solvency requirement for the visa, called the Tanzanian embassy, and she said to just include a copy of the invoice from the safari, trek, etc. That’s easy enough. BTW there is a newer visa application form on the Tanzania website that’s slightly different from the one that Kiliwarriors included.

http://www.tanzaniaembassy-us.org/visa/visa_form_04.pdf This link doesn’t seem to work in the blog, so just paste it in the browser or google on Tanzania visa

I also called the Kenyan embassy and the guy confirmed that if you don’t pass through customs, which I won’t, you don’t need any kind of immigration paperwork.

Hey, I sent in our visa applications and passports back on May 3rd, along with the invoice from Kiliwarriors, and a copy of our plane tickets. And the $$$, of course, in postal MO form. Have been waiting anxiously for said passports to come home to Mama, accompanied by those magic visas. Well…yesterday I received the passports in my SASE, but NO VISAS! Or letter of explanation, or anything! Two calls to the Embassy connected me with the voicemail of a very pleasant-sounding young man, but that’s all. So I am still trying to find out what’s going on. Will you let me know when and if you receive your visas? Thanks. 🙂

The visas are usually stamped/pasted inside the passports, aren’t they? And they weren’t there? Maybe I got lucky, but I got a person on the phone on the first try, about 9:15 local time. Pressed the keys for the tourism office. Seems like it might be worth a call and they should be able to connect a visa they (maybe) issued with your passport number, right? Maybe they can tell you what it’s supposed to look like too. I’ll let you know what happens with mine.

As you can tell, I have never been to a country where a visa is required…boy, is my face red! The visa IS pasted inside my passport! I didn’t even see it, just shook the passports out of the envelope and looked inside for some other mysterious document I thought would be a visa. Maybe it’s a good thing I haven’t spoken with someone inside the Embassy. They’d rescind my visa on grounds of mental incompetence :p Thanks, Jon…all better now.
