Hi Jon:
Since it appears you and I will be travelling on our own it’s likely we’ll be tent mates. I too plan on leaving September 1, flying to JRO from Denver via Amsterdam.
The climb is much on my mind, and I’m making a major effort to hike and bike as part of my conditioning program. One advantage of living in Colorado is that, once the snow melts on the high country there will be lots of opportunities to spend time at altitude. In the meantime, the canyons closer to home will do nicely.
Cordially,

Thanks for taking the initiative with your web site.
Hi Rick! Great to hear from you. We’ll, you’ll no doubt have the highest red cell count when we start…what a fantastic place to train. I have a brother in law in law (married to my wife’s sister) who just moved to Colorado Springs, and I’ve been toying with the idea of going out the week before we fly to Africa to see him, and spending some time around Leadville. But I’d probably have to spend the better part of a week there to get any good out of it, given that we travel for almost three days before actually starting the hike. Do you think a few days would be worth the trouble?
Thanks for contributing to the site…I found your comment in the ‘draft’ queue so I hope you meant for it to be published. see ya, Jon
